SOAR is an outdoor and experiential education program that supports youth aged 8-18 struggling with learning and attention challenges. Our population group consists of individuals diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disabilities, and Autism Spectrum. SOAR offers expedition-style adventures that last up to 17 days. The programs are co-ed, and each group has 8 students supervised by 2 staff members, a course director, and an activity specialist- depending on the activity.In Wyoming, activities include rock climbing, whitewater rafting, canoeing, backpacking, horseback riding, and horse packing. Some programs include cultural and STEM-based experiences in National and State parks like Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and the Wind River Range. Responsibilities include: WY Field Staff are responsible for supervising and ensuring the safety and success of students 24/7 while leading expeditionary trip and travel style courses. They manage daily logistics, activities, and operations, facilitate the development of life skills, handle behavioral situations, collaborate with course directors, parents, and fellow staff, and write student evaluations. Field staff should demonstrate maturity, responsibility, organizational skills, and professional behavior.Requirements:SOAR is currently hiring staff members with at least 2 years of college experience and who are at least 19 years old (21 or older to drive a SOAR van). While having current certifications in Wilderness First Aid, Lifeguarding, and/or CPR is preferred and can result in increased contract pay, it is not mandatory. If you do not have these certifications, SOAR will provide Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or mandatory First Aid and CPR training at no cost, depending on enrollment. Experience and/or a desire to work with LD and AD/HD youth is highly valued. The ideal candidate should possess patience, energy, enthusiasm, flexibility, maturity, and integrity. SOAR is also looking for candidates with experience in or who want to learn how to facilitate outdoor adventure activities.
