The Senior Data Engineer at Coconut Software will act as a technical lead for projects by designing, developing, and maintaining infrastructure that delivers accessible data to power decision-making. The growing Data Platform team will create, manage and evolve infrastructure and analytics solutions that turn data into knowledge.
This role has a strong focus on business outcomes and the relationship between departmental development goals and overall company goals. Coconut is looking for a Senior Data Engineer with experience designing intuitive and efficient data infrastructure, processes and products. From managing and evolving our data lake and continually optimizing its capabilities, to automation and scaling processes for the efficient transformation of data in batch, streaming, and machine learning pipelines, you will champion best practices for ensuring data security and protecting the quality of our datasets. You should have strong organizational, critical thinking, and communication skills.
YOU ARE FIRED UP TO:

Be a key and reliable member of our small but mighty and aspirational data team
Partner with our senior data experts to design, develop, and scale our data infrastructure to manage larger datasets and increasingly complex use cases
Design, build and manage self-serve dashboards and views for users using business intelligence tools like Looker
Explore and identify insights, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
Collaborate with the data engineering team to develop data collection, storage, and transformation strategies for downstream reporting and analytics
Educate and support internal users and stakeholders to improve data literacy and data accessibility within the organization
Participate in discussions on predictive model prototypes and ML algorithms
Own documentation and definitions for data sources and metrics, ensuring users can reliably trust our data (including data catalogues, common business language, data nuance, and version tracking)
Identify and troubleshoot data inconsistencies and implement measures to track and monitor the integrity of data and accuracy of reports

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:

5 or more years Development experience including at least 3 years of experience with architecting and maintaining data solutions
Thrives in a high autonomy environment and works with the team to direct energy and focus towards highest priority initiatives
Proven ability to take initiative, be innovative, and take the lead on projects
A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets
In-depth understanding of database management systems and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework
Mastery of relational databases (e.g. MariaDB, Postgres) and SQL
Expert in query optimization, resource allocation and management (Terraform experience is a bonus), and data lake performance
Experience with some elements of our tech stack (Python, dbt, Airflow, Databricks, Looker) and AWS cloud services: Redshift, DMS, RDS, EC2
