African Culture Connection
This position is a mix of teaching artist and administration/office duties. Under duties for the teaching position, ACC leadership expects this person to be the lead teaching artist for the after-school and in-school residency programs. Over the summer or during school breaks, the person is expected to increase awareness about the program through community and school outreach efforts.DutiesAs a teaching artist:Teach the prescribed dance, drumming, and visual art each term (according to the ACC curriculum documents) in both after school and in-school residency programs on a regular basis throughout the school year, and other educational opportunities as they arise.Create new curriculum activities for the development of future residency programs. Plan residency activities with fellow ACC Teaching Artists.Organize summer residency programs with local nonprofits, businesses, program, teaching a new group of students.With the executive and program directors, conduct outreach efforts to new schools and organizations where ACC could offer its after-school and in-school residency programs.Willingness to learn and become a performing artist with the company.Lead warm-ups with artists and assist in rehearsals with performing artists, as needed.Assist with outreach and partnership development.Work with performing artists as needed. Providing Program Support:Develop and create ACC Personal Properties (costumes and instruments).Participating in strategic planning sessions with other staff members to implement ideas toward improving operations and programming and increasing fundraising outcomes.Create content for social media and promotional events, including but not limited to, videos, pictures, flyers, etc.Update and maintain ACCs website.Work with the program director to carry out ACCs communications and marketing strategy. QualificationsBachelors Degree or Higher, preferred.Teaching certificate/experience, preferred.Knowledge about African culture, preferred.Passion for teaching and engaging with others, especially children.A desire and openness to learn ACCs dance, drumming, and vision art.Ability to create and take initiative.Work is active. Physical requirements for this job include, but are not limited to, dancing, jumping, turns, arm movements, etc. About African Culture ConnectionAfrican Culture Connection is an Omaha-based traditional west African dance, drumming, and storytelling group rooted in the traditions of authentic African culture. Salary Range:$45,000 - $50,000 Commensurate with Experience
