Teacher-2 Year DegreeSUMMARYInstruct preschool children in activities designed to promote social, physical and cognitive growth necessary for kindergarten preparation.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Follow all Fulmont, Head Start, and NYS Day Care Regulations, Policies and Procedures.Provide guidance and direction to the Teacher Assistant, as well as any Bus Monitor/Center Aides, Substitutes, Interns, or parents in the classroom.Plan individual and group activities to stimulate development of language, social/emotional, and motor skills.Utilize the Creative Curriculum, as well as other curriculum related to physical health, mental health, nutrition and literacy.Promote daily life skills in each child by providing opportunities involving room cleanliness and personal hygiene, such as, table setting/cleanup, sweeping floor, picking up after play time, brushing teeth, proper toilet habits/cleanliness, etc.Ensure tables are set in a manner that promotes family style meal periods, as required by the performance standards.Promote socialization, fine motor skills, self-help skills, and appropriate table manners during family style meal periods.Alternate periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid over-stimulation and fatigue of children.Complete two home visits annually with the parents of each child, assisting them in setting educational goals. Additional home visits may be necessary based on individual family needs.Follow-up the progress of goals and objectives through periodic observations and on-going anecdotal notes.Conduct two annual parent/teacher conferences to review progress.Complete GOLD for each child three times per year.Maintain ongoing communication with the Family Worker regarding childrens attendance, notes from parents, and any other pertinent information about the children and families through weekly team meetings.Maintain on-going communication between home and school throughout the year.Develop and submit lesson plans to the On-Site Supervisor per current procedure located in Education Binder.Complete daily attendance, meal counts and head count logs.Thoroughly check each childs book bag and/or parent/teacher communication folder on a daily basis.Check and monitor classroom and indoor/outdoor play areas for any hazardous materials on a daily basis.Ensure all documentation and paperwork is maintained and kept up to date in Child Plus, GOLD, and DECAAttend mandatory training and pursue education as it pertains to the position.Assist children during arrival and dismissal periods.Provide continuous supervision, monitoring and interaction with the children during indoor/outdoor activities, field trips, etc.Interact with children through continuous educational opportunities involving all developmental areas: language, social/emotional, fine and gross motor, cognitive.Create and promote a continuous, positive environment for children, families, and staff.Communicate and address, in unison with the Teacher Assistant and Family Advocate/Specialist, any concerns and/or issues directly related to the children, families or classroom operations.If problems are unresolved, follow the organizational chart and report to the On-Site Supervisor.Input education data into Child Plus, GOLD, and DECAProvide input as requested by management regarding staff performance evaluations.Adhere to all Agency safety policies as well as any State, Federal or other applicable safety regulations.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNoneSIGNATURE AUTHORITYInternal program specific documents.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Previous work experience in a preschool setting preferred.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSDriver License required.CPR/First Aid Certification and MAT certification a plus.OTHER REQUIREMENTSReliable transportation required.LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents and written communications. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively speak in both one-on-one and group situations involving children, parents, staff and community members.Bilingual a plus.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to utilize basic math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
