OverviewKarm Chling is a residential meditation center locatedon 420 acres of beautiful land in Barnet, VT.Our one-acre garden has been managed organically for 35 years and produces a wide variety of vegetables, flowers, herbs, shiitake mushrooms, and berries. Most produce is used to feed the community at the meditation center, but some produce is sold via an on-site food stand, a local meal site, and a food coop.The Garden Manager serves as Department Head for the garden and works with the Senior Garden Manager to meet the gardens daily and seasonal needs.Key Tasks and ResponsibilitiesGarden operations:Seeding and transplantingSoil prep (we have a BCS tractor with power harrow plus many hand tools)Irrigation and weed managementOrganic pest managementHarvest and distribution of produceComposting and cover cropping for general soil fertilityManaging two greenhousesAdministrative tasks:Attend weekly staff and community meetingsSupport communication, collaboration, and coordination with the Kitchen StaffManage Garden budgetSupport and manage the Garden Assistant, including:Signing off for time awaySupporting the growth, development, and execution of their specific rolesCultivate an atmosphere of kindness and invitation in the gardenGarden Manager QualitiesExperience with gardening and managing a garden or farmStrong communication skillsFlexibility with work hours (30 hours per week in the garden plus 5 hours of additional community work in maintaining our common living and meditation areas)Ability to inspire Garden TeamSalary/CompensationRoom and board, including a personal room, daily meals, and access to community spaces, such as staff exercise room*Department head salary28 personal days per yearSupport for a daily meditation practice, including two hours allotted to community meditation practice each day, free programs and classes, and a personally-assigned Meditation Instructor*Candidates who wish to live locally and not on-site may discuss alternative compensation packages.To apply, please send your resume and a brief cover letter describing your background and interest to Jack Sweeney-Taylor, Head of Personnel, through the Apply Now portal.To find more information and apply through our website, go to the Job Opportunities page at KarmeCholing-dot-org.
